Deaf workers lose thousands in power tools to thieves, have group hug, vow to 'keep going'

The theft occurred in broad daylight while the construction workers were making repairs to a home in Granada Hills. Jan Menapace, a homeowner in Granada Hills, California, has raised nearly $4,000 to help a crew of deaf construction workers who were robbed of thousands of dollars in power tools while working on repairs to her home. The theft occurred on Oct. 22 and left Menapate feeling "very brazen" and "heartbroken" for the workers. She shared videos of the incident with The Times in hopes of identifying the thieves and reporting them to the Los Angeles Police Department. The stolen equipment, which included a blower, included a nail gun and eight batteries. So far, Menapac has raised $5,000 for the crew to replace its stolen equipment.
