L.A. Speed Cameras Are Now Fines and Locations
L.A.‘s first 20 speed cameras are now active. Here’s where they’re located, how the 60-day warning period works and when fines begin. Los Angeles's first automated speed cameras officially go live on Monday, Oct. 26, marking the start of a new enforcement program aimed at reducing speeding across the city. About 20 cameras will be activated in the first round, with plans to activate 125 locations by the end of the year. Each camera will have a 60-day warning period, with drivers receiving fines ranging from $50 to $500 for exceeding the speed limit. The cameras will eventually cover all 15 Los Angeles City Council districts. They will only capture rear license plate information, not faces, and confidential information cannot be shared with law enforcement unless a court order is obtained. Fatal crashes in Los Angeles have increased by 13% this year, with the LAPD recording 254 through Oct. 10 compared to 224 the previous year.
