Los Angeles’ new speed camera network gets off to a rapid start as streets lit up with flashes
During the initial 60-day period starting Oct. 26, speeding drivers will only receive warnings by mail and the monetary fine will only kick in after the grace period ends. Los Angeles's new speed camera network opened its doors on Monday morning with the first wave of 20 cameras. The automatic cameras will target speeding vehicles across major thoroughfares, with penalties reaching $500 for the most extreme violations. In the first phase, nearly 20 cameras were installed in the city and by 2026, these cameras are expected to be installed at 125 enforcement sites across LA’s 15 council districts. The revenue generated through fines will be used for local safe-street infrastructure projects. Street Racing Kills founder Lily Trujillo believes the cameras will help fill a crucial information gap for law enforcement agencies.
