Major parking overhaul proposed for Venice heads to LADOT public hearing - Yo! Venice!
City plans call for new paid meters along Abbot Kinney Boulevard, higher hourly rates, and automated payment stations. By Sarah Lin. Sweeping Los Angeles officials will host a virtual hearing on major parking changes in Venice, including 200 new meters on Abbot Kinney Boulevard and lot fee hikes. The Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering (LADOT) is hosting a virtual public hearing on Oct. 27 to review a Coastal Development Permit application related to the LA Express Park initiative. The proposal includes new paid meters along Abbot Kinney Boulevard, higher hourly rates, and automated payment stations. Approximately 200 currently free, unmetered curbside spaces along the street would convert into paid metered parking. Existing meters would also undergo hardware upgrades to introduce color LED screens, integrated vehicle occupancy sensors, and contact-free mobile payment methods. The plan also includes raising baseline hourly rates for curbsside parking and six city-owned off-street lots. Neighborhood transit infrastructure will also be adjusted under the proposal, including pedestrian directional markers and new vehicular wayfinding signs.
