Socialist civil war engulfs Los Angeles mayor race
An Israel fight is dividing socialists over the Los Angeles mayor race. The National Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is debating whether to disown Nithya Raman for the Los Angeles mayor's office. The Los Angeles chapter of DSA has endorsed Raman over her position on the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel. Raman is currently leading in polls ahead of the Nov. 3 election, with many voters still undecided. The DSA's National Political Committee found that the chapter violated endorsement rules by failing to ask Raman about BDS, but stopped short of invalidating its support. National leaders are considering reviving the endorsement and barring the chapter from using resources to campaign for Raman. This is not the first time Raman has clashed with DSA over Israel; she has previously been censured for accepting an endorsement from Democrats for Israel-Los Angeles but maintained its support despite objections.
