According to a press release issued by Bass… An independent, non-city-affiliated audit of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) rates has been ordered by Mayor Karen Bass, who is urging the LADWP Board of Commissioners to provide immediate relief on energy bills for some Angelenos facing sharply higher charges. The audit would require LADWWP to explain how rates are calculated, justified, and billed, evaluate the cost of service, and examine rate design to promote long-term affordability and protect ratepayers from unexpected billing spikes. Bass also called for a 25% increase in the LADSWP’s energy efficiency rebate program due to inflation and other economic challenges. The mayor announced temporary relief measures for affected customers and suggested measures to save customers money and ease the burden of unexpectedly high electric bills.
