Mayor Bass, City Councilmembers Launch City’s First-Ever Unified Call Center for Unarmed Crisis Response

2 Urban Girls covers urban news, politics, local theater, community events and more! Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has launched the first-ever Unified Call Center for Unarmed Crisis Response, leading to a new Executive Directive to strengthen and modernize Los Angeles' 911 emergency response system. The directive includes creating a unified call center to streamline the diversion and dispatch of civilian crisis response teams, accelerating the recruitment, hiring, and retention of 911 dispatchers, modernizing emergency communications technology, and establishing clear performance metrics to track response times, identify opportunities for improvement, and strengthen accountability. Since 2023, over 125,000 calls have been diverted from 911 to Mental Health and Crisis Response Teams. These actions will improve emergency response coordination, reduce 911 wait times, and ensure Angelenos receive the appropriate response to each call quickly.
