New speed cameras arrive in Los Angeles. Here's what drivers should know
There are new eyes across L.A. trying to catch speeders. The city's first automated speed-enforcement cameras are targeting drivers going at least 11 mph over the limit. Los Angeles has launched a new automated speed-safety system, using cameras to track speeding vehicles. The system is triggered when drivers are traveling at least 11 mph over the posted speed limit. The city plans to install 125 cameras by the end of the year, with fines starting at $50 after a 60-day period of warnings. Fines could increase for higher speeds and could reach as high as $500. The cameras are designed to capture images of rear license plates, not the faces of drivers or passengers. The pilot program is part of a five-year pilot program to reduce speeding and improve roadway safety.
