The charges stem from fraud at substance abuse treatment centers, hospice services and surgeons in California. At least six of the 15 people charged are doctors, including one who allegedly performed unnecessary surgeries to bill Medicaid for over $130 million. This comes as President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance have announced a $25 million program to encourage whistleblowers to report suspected federal aid programs. Meanwhile, Missouri has announced a collaborative effort to identify fraud in Medicaid, SNAP and other federally funded benefits administered by the state.
