How USC students can have fun and stay safe during Halloween weekend
The holiday coincides with a home football game, which heightens DPS concerns about safety. The University of California's Department of Public Safety (DPS) is expecting a higher volume of calls from students who have had too much to drink during Halloween weekend, particularly those of students who are under the influence of alcohol consumption. The Department of Enforcement (DSP) has urged students to make smart choices and not overindulging. David Carlisle, the Assistant Chief at DPS, said that Halloween weekend is one of the busiest weekends of the year for college parties due to a football game on Halloween giving students more reason to party. The "Rethink the Drink" text message service is designed to keep students aware of their alcohol consumption and encourages students to stay consistent with their intentional drinking or non-drinking plans on game days. Additionally, there are concerns about pedestrian vulnerability due to the predicted rain and potential drunkenness.
