The National Weather Service predicts that the storm could start late Friday night and last into Sunday, leading to significant roadway flooding. City officials have urged residents in low-lying areas to prepare for flooding. Sandbags are available for purchase at various locations.

SEAL BEACH, CA — Seal Beach is going to be hit by an atmospheric river-driven storm system over Easter weekend, which is expected to bring more flooding and a chance of mudslides according to the National Weather Service.

Total rainfall is expected to be 1.5 to 2.5 inches for most of the coast, with more than three inches forecasted across foothill areas with an increased risk of mud and rockslides. Rain is expected to fall at a rate of up to half an inch per hour, according to the National Weather Service. "This could be an efficient rain producer, as (models) show an atmospheric river pointing straight into Southern California Saturday into Sunday," the NWS said in a statement.

City officials said those living in low-lying areas should prepare accordingly due to the area being prone to flooding. Long Beach residents were encouraged to prepare sandbags. Sandbags are available to Seal Beach residents at the following locations:

Residents are required to bring their IDs and can pick up a maximum of 10 bags. Those collecting sand were also urged to bring their own shovel or tools. Collecting sand from the beach is illegal.
