One of California’s Most Iconic Campgrounds Has Finally Reopened
Cedar Grove in Kings Canyon National Park is welcoming visitors again. After more than a year of closure, popular campsite and recreation area Cedar Grove in Kings Canyon National Park, California, has reopened after a significant closure due to a winter that resulted in 700 inches of snow and severe flooding. The park was closed in early 2023 due to an unprecedented winter in California, resulting in severe flooding and significant disruption. As of June 10, Cedar Grove is open to the public for day use, with the visitor center and the Cedar Grove Market set to reopen on June 15. The area's lodge, showers, and laundry facilities are also set to open. While the campgrounds are still closed, the Sentinel Campground is expected to reopen by July 1. Reservations for the 2024 summer and fall seasons will be made once confirmed.

After being closed for more than a year, popular campsite and recreation area Cedar Grove in Kings Canyon National Park has finally reopened.
The lush outpost, along with other frequented campgrounds and trails, shut down in early 2023 after an unprecedented winter in California resulted in 700 inches of snow and severe flooding. The area’s closure was particularly lamented by travelers during last year’s summer season.
Cedar Grove has long been considered a hidden gem in California’s National Park System, due to its lack of crowds and bountiful sequoia trees, waterfalls, and vistas. As of June 10, Cedar Grove is open to the public for day use (keep your activities to tranquil strolls and scenic picnics). The visitor center is also open from 9 am to 5 pm, and the Cedar Grove Market will follow suit on June 15. The area’s lodge, showers, and laundry facilities are set to reopen June 21. Those wanting to hike through the grove’s wilderness trails must seek a $15 permit in advance of visiting.
While Cedar Grove’s campgrounds are still closed, the Sentinel Campground is projected to reopen no earlier than July 1; reservations for the 2024 summer and fall seasons will be made available once the date is confirmed.
