A freelance photographer has tentatively settled his lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles in which he alleges he was struck by an LAPD projectile while taking images during the Lakers championship parade after the 2020 NBA Finals.

Attorneys for plaintiff Manuel Alexandro Barrientos filed court papers on Wednesday with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Cherol J. Nellon stating that a conditional resolution of the case was reached that is subject to approval by the City Council. No terms were divulged.

In their court papers, attorneys for the city denied the allegations of Barrientos, which consisted of negligence, assault, battery and civil rights violations.

Barrientos was taking photos of the parade on Oct. 11, 2020, near what was then known as the Staples Center when he was struck in the face by an LAPD rubber bullet, knocking out teeth and causing other injuries, the suit alleged.

Barrientos was hospitalized and underwent surgery, according to his suit filed in October 2021.
