BEDFORD—A California man was arrested Thursday after Bedford Police Officers were requested to do a welfare check at 2:53 a.m. in the area of 5th and W Streets.

When police arrived, they found a male on the side of the road and a 2002 white Chevrolet Trailblaze parked off the roadway.

The driver was Fransico Javier Dominguez-Barron, 34, of Panorama City, California. He was holding his head, and police noticed red marks on his face, and he had suffered a busted lip.

Barron told Sgt. Faheem Bade had not struck anything with his vehicle but had driven off the roadway. Police say the guard rail had heavy damage, and more than 100 feet of debris had been left on the roadway up to the Trailblazer.

Police say Barron had been drinking. He admitted to having “a couple”. Barron had a blood-alcohol level of 0.231 percent.

Barron said he was coming around the curve when he went off the roadway and spun the vehicle around, throwing items from the Trailblazer into the roadway. Police found vehicle batteries, a subwoofer, his cell phone, multiple pairs of jeans, a tow strap, and jumper cables.

Barron told police that he was at Bandana’s Bar & Grill earlier and then went to a friend’s house to drink more. He stated that he did not drink anything after the crash or while he was driving. He stated that everything he had to drink was before he got into his vehicle.

Officers attempted to get Barron medical treatment on scene, but due to an extended wait time, it was decided to have an officer transport him directly to at IU Health Bedford Hospital. While at the hospital, Barron submitted to a blood draw. Once medically cleared he was transported to jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and OWI endangerment.
