South LA police chase ends in shooting

Los Angeles police officers opened fire on a 21-year-old man allegedly armed with a rifle during a vehicle pursuit in South Los Angeles. The suspect, identified as DeAndre Thompson, was not hit by the gunfire. The incident occurred about 10:50 p.m. Friday when patrol officers spotted a man wearing a black ski mask and holding a rifle outside a vehicle. The driver and a rear passenger fled on foot as Thompson exited the vehicle holding a weapon. Thompson was later arrested and charged with assault on a peace officer with a semiautomatic firearm. Two other suspects were booked on suspicion of being felons in possession of a firearm, while a fourth was booked on charges of resisting an officer.
